Endorsement Principles
As an addendum to the by-laws concerning the making of endorsements, the executive committee of the RLC of Florida has approved the following resolution containing principles to foster the spirit, in addition to the letter, of the endorsement rules.
- The integrity of RLC of Florida endorsements must be preserved. When a candidate receives an RLC endorsement, this is a positive statement that indicates that the RLC has done sufficient research and is confident that the candidate embraces and will act in accordance with the goals of lower taxes, less government and expanded personal and economic liberty and responsibility. When a ballot issue is endorsed, its must always indicate that the ballot issue reduces the size of government or expands individual freedom.
- RLC of Florida endorsements are never negative. That is, the RLC does not endorse a candidate solely in order to defeat their opponent.
- RLC of Florida endorsements are never relative. That is, the RLC endorsement does not merely mean that the endorsed candidate is the best candidate running, but that the candidate is a principled advocate of limited government.
- The RLC of Florida, as an organization, is no under any obligation to make endorsements in any particular race or referenda.
- The RLC of Florida encourages its members to participate in all manner of campaigns and referenda, including in those about which the RLC, as an organization, is silent.
- Nominees for endorsement can be made by any current dues-paying member of the RLC residing in the state of Florida.
- All endorsements must be ratified by the current dues-paying members of the RLC of Florida.
- Members of Congress who receive a ‘libertarian’ score in the RLC’s Liberty Index are automatically nominated for endorsement by the RLC of Florida.
- As an intra-party caucus, the RLC of Florida endorses only Republican candidates for office.
